Importance of Sun in Jyotish

Sun (Surya) is the king of our constellation. A king is like a father: he protects and governs the people of his kingdom, which is why the Sun is also called the father in astrology.
Can we even imagine what would happen if the Sun didn’t rise one day?

The Sun plays a crucial role in astrology. As the head of the solar system, it is considered the most powerful planet in astrology. Generally, in astrology, the Sun symbolizes power, position, and authority. Life on Earth would be absolutely impossible without the Sun. Humans, plants, and all living beings are entirely dependent on it.

Worshiping the Sun God is not a new practice. Hindus have been praying to and worshiping the Sun God since ancient times. We get vitamin D from the Sun.

If the Sun is powerful in a person’s birth chart, it will grant them power, position, and authority over others. Such a person is likely to live like a king. If the Sun is strong enough in the birth chart, the individual’s career and business will proceed smoothly.

When the Sun is placed in an exalted sign, its own sign, or a friendly sign, it empowers the individual, providing them with authority and rank. Government jobs are also more likely. A strong Sun in a birth chart is a blessing for politicians, physicians, administrators, and managers. It is especially beneficial for those who head government departments.

The Sun in Aries is considered exalted in astrology. An exalted Sun makes the person strong, obedient, powerful, brave, dynamic, and dominant. It also imparts leadership qualities. A person with the Sun in Aries tends to be angry and courageous, leading to success in politics and the corporate world.

The Sun also gives good results when placed in the signs of its friendly planets. The Sun is favorable to Mars, Jupiter, and the Moon. When it occupies the houses of Mars and Jupiter (i.e., Aries, Scorpio, Sagittarius, and Pisces), it yields very good results. However, the outcome depends entirely on the Sun’s position in the chart.

The Sun in the 1st, 10th, and 11th houses is considered powerful in astrology. However, if the Sun is in a friendly sign, such as the 6th house, and forms a Nichbhanga Rajyoga, it bestows power, position, and prestige in society. There are many famous individuals who have a debilitated Sun but still achieved fame and success. Bollywood celebrity and beauty queen Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, for example, has a debilitated Sun in Libra. Spiritual leader Deepak Chopra and former President of India, Dr. Abdul Kalam, also have a debilitated Sun.

Hence, it is very important to thoroughly examine the horoscope to ascertain the strength of the Sun.

If the Sun is afflicted by malefic planets like Saturn, Mars, Rahu, or Ketu, it can cause various kinds of trouble. In such cases, it is recommended to worship the Sun.

The Sun is also very important in Ashtaka Varga, where its Bhinna Shtak (section) is formed first.
