This is also an interesting topic.
Many times, while doing Guna Milan (compatibility matching), we observe that the charts match, but in the Panchanga (astrological almanac) where the guna (score) is noted, a number 7 appears below it. What does this mean? It indicates Shadashtak Yoga. Some people also use software to match Kundlis (birth charts), where Bhakut sometimes comes as 0, due to generic data filled into the software. So, what exactly is Shadashtak?
There are two types of Shadashtak Yoga:
- Mrityu Shadashtak
- Priti Shadashtak
Shadashtak Yoga is based on the inherent nature of the Rasis (zodiac signs). If the basic nature of the Rasis is compatible, it is called Priti Shadashtak. Conversely, if the nature of the Rasis is incompatible, it is called Mrityu Shadashtak. Priti Shadashtak is generally considered more favorable than Mrityu Shadashtak. Often, the list of general “dos and don’ts” becomes longer than what is recommended.
Let’s first understand why Mrityu Shadashtak Yoga is named so. The term “death” may sound alarming to some people, but in reality, it doesn’t imply literal death, as illustrated in the following examples.
For instance, Aries is outspoken and does not worry about consequences. Virgo, on the other hand, is analytical and prefers negotiation. Aries individuals tend to make quick, on-the-spot decisions without much thought, often leading to losses. Virgo, however, will think a hundred times before making any decision and may sit quietly, defeating their opponent with their questions and doubts. Aries and Virgo, with their contrasting natures, are likely to clash continuously, resulting in conflict and frustration—this is the essence of Mrityu Shadashtak, symbolizing a struggle that feels like “death.”
Another example is Cancer and Aquarius. Cancer, a pure-hearted romantic, may find it difficult to connect with the scientific and rational Aquarius. Cancer loves the kitchen and home, while Aquarius is attached to books and the intellectual sphere. Cancer, one of the most romantic signs, might find Aquarius too detached.
In contrast, Priti Shadashtak represents harmonious compatibility, as shown in the examples below:
- Aries and Scorpio: Both ruled by Mars, they may have temper issues but are fiercely loyal.
- Taurus and Libra: Both ruled by Venus, leading to a natural understanding.
- Cancer and Sagittarius: Cancer can easily understand Sagittarius’s adventurous nature.
From the tables given in the Panchanga, one can see which Rasis form Mrityu Shadashtak and which form Priti Shadashtak with each other.
